Always follow your doctor’s instructions precisely. The correct dosage depends on your child’s weight and the type of infection. Typical dosages range from 20-40 mg/kg/day, divided into two doses. For example, a 20kg child might receive 200-400mg total daily, divided into two doses of 100-200mg each, 12 hours apart. Use the provided measuring spoon or syringe to ensure accurate dosing. Never use household spoons for measurement. Shake the bottle well before each dose to ensure even distribution of the medication.
Administering the Suspension
Administer the medication with food to reduce potential stomach upset. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking a dose, contact your doctor before administering another dose. Complete the entire course of antibiotics, even if your child feels better before the medication is finished. Stopping early can lead to treatment failure and the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Refrigerate the suspension and discard any unused medication after 10 days.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, administer it as soon as you remember, unless it’s almost time for the next dose. Never double the dose to make up for a missed one.
