Drug Interactions with Ciprofloxacin

Always inform your doctor or pharmacist about all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and herbal remedies, before starting Ciprofloxacin. This prevents potentially harmful interactions.

Antacids and Mineral Supplements:

Avoid taking Ciprofloxacin with antacids or mineral supplements containing calcium, magnesium, aluminum, or iron. These substances can reduce Ciprofloxacin absorption, making it less effective. Space your doses at least 2 hours apart.

Dairy Products:

Dairy products like milk and yogurt can also interfere with Ciprofloxacin absorption. Consume them at least 2 hours before or after taking your medication.

Warfarin:

Ciprofloxacin can increase the effects of Warfarin, a blood thinner, potentially leading to increased bleeding risk. Close monitoring of your blood clotting time is necessary.

Theophylline:

Combined use with Theophylline (used to treat asthma and COPD) may increase Theophylline levels, potentially causing side effects like nausea, vomiting, and heart palpitations. Your doctor should monitor your Theophylline levels.

NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs):

Concurrent use with NSAIDs such as ibuprofen or naproxen may increase the risk of seizures. Use caution and inform your doctor.

Probenecid:

Probenecid decreases the excretion of Ciprofloxacin, potentially leading to higher Ciprofloxacin levels in your blood and increasing the risk of side effects. Your doctor may adjust your dosage.

Other Medications:

Ciprofloxacin can interact with numerous other medications, including certain antidepressants, diabetes medications, and caffeine. Always provide a complete medication list to your healthcare provider.
