Interactions with Other Medications and Contraindications

Always inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and herbal remedies. Viagra interacts negatively with nitrates, commonly used to treat chest pain (angina). This combination can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure.

Alpha-blockers, used to treat high blood pressure and enlarged prostate, can also interact with Viagra, potentially leading to dizziness or fainting. Similarly, certain antifungals, HIV protease inhibitors, and some antibiotics may affect Viagra’s effectiveness or increase the risk of side effects.

Men with heart conditions, low blood pressure, uncontrolled high blood pressure, recent stroke or heart attack, severe liver or kidney disease, or retinitis pigmentosa should discuss the risks of Viagra with their physician before use. These conditions increase the potential for adverse reactions.

Grapefruit juice can also increase Viagra’s concentration in the bloodstream, potentially enhancing side effects. Avoid consuming grapefruit juice while taking Viagra.

This information is not exhaustive, and individual responses to medications vary. Always consult your doctor before starting Viagra or any new medication to assess potential interactions and contraindications specific to your health status.
