Ciprofloxacin Side Effects:
- Gastrointestinal Issues: Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain are frequently reported. Severe cases may involve Clostridium difficile infection. Nervous System Effects: Dizziness, headache, insomnia, and rarely, seizures or peripheral neuropathy. Skin Reactions: Rash, itching, photosensitivity (increased sun sensitivity). Tendinitis and Tendon Rupture: A serious, though rare, side effect, particularly in older adults or those taking corticosteroids. QT Prolongation: Can affect heart rhythm; monitor carefully if you have existing heart conditions.
Metronidazole Side Effects:
- Gastrointestinal Issues: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, metallic taste in the mouth are common. Nervous System Effects: Headache, dizziness, vertigo. Skin Reactions: Rash. Drug Interactions: Metronidazole interacts with alcohol, causing unpleasant reactions. Avoid alcohol consumption during treatment and for at least 48 hours after completing the course. Disulfiram-like Reaction: Consumption of alcohol during or after treatment can cause flushing, nausea, vomiting, headache, and palpitations.
