Potential Serious Side Effects and When to Seek Immediate Medical Attention

If you experience any of the following, stop taking Zyprexa and seek immediate medical help: severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing); symptoms of neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) – a rare but serious condition including high fever, muscle stiffness, confusion, rapid heartbeat, sweating; seizures; signs of a stroke (sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body; sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding; sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes; sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination); sudden, unexplained fever or infection; uncontrollable muscle movements (tardive dyskinesia); low white blood cell count (neutropenia).

Contact your doctor immediately if you notice significant weight gain, increased blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia), or increased cholesterol levels. Also, report any changes in your mood, including increased thoughts of suicide or self-harm. Pay close attention to any unusual bleeding or bruising. Observe your body closely for any symptoms of jaundice (yellowing of skin and eyes). These could indicate serious complications. Don’t hesitate to contact your healthcare provider if you have any concerns about potential side effects, however minor they may seem. Early detection is key for successful management.
